Evans Inc., a struggling Chicago fur retailer operating under bankruptcy protection, said it has agreed to sell its assets to furrier Birger Christensen USA Inc. for $14.2 million.
Under the proposed agreement, Birger Christensen would acquire all of Evans’ inventory, trademarks and contract rights.
That includes Evans’ licensing agreement to operate fur salons in a number of department store chains, including Marshall Field’s and Bloomingdale’s.
Birger Christensen said that it plans to use Evans’ five remaining free-standing stores to conduct “going out of business” sales through February.
