The Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-C board president has resigned.

Garry Raymond resigned from the board Tuesday after serving as a board member since mid-1993 and as president for more than two years. Raymond, the principal at the Central campus of Lockport Township High School District 2905, left with two years remaining on his term.

He said he needs more time as he begins writing his dissertation for a doctorate in educational administration and policy analysis at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

During his tenure, the board negotiated several labor contracts, hired Supt. Roberta Berry in 1997 and led an effort to pass two referendum measures within the last year that led to the construction of a new middle school. The district, which educates more than 2,700 pupils, covers Shorewood and parts of Channahon, Plainfield and southwest Joliet.

After accepting Raymond’s resignation, the board chose Otha Lang to be president. The board also elected Mark Fumagalli as vice president and Carolyn Mason as secretary.

Board members said they intend to fill the vacancy Dec. 15. Board members encouraged residents interested in the position to send a letter to the district office.
