The Elk Grove Village Park District Board of Commissioners Thursday night unanimously approved its 1999 tax levy of about $7.1 million, a 2.1 percent increase over last year’s tax levy of about $6.9 million.
About 1.6 percent of that 2.1 percent increase in funding will come from new construction on the tax rolls in the southwest portion of the district, said district official Steven Burgess.
Burgess said the levy will not have a big impact on residents’ property tax bills. The tax rate will increase 1 cent to 52 cents per $100 equalized assessed valuation, Burgess said.
The increase will be used to defray the added expense of park maintenance and upgrades.
Included in the levy is about $3.4 million for general corporate uses such as personnel, supplies and liability insurance. About $1.3 million will be used to repay bonds and interest and $1 million will be spent on recreational programs.
In other action, the Park Board also approved a $36,421, one-year contract for trash, recycling and yard waste removal with Waste Management Inc. The Park District previously spent more than $51,000 to remove its own waste.
