Why I took this job: It sounded like a great opportunity, and I would be utilizing my skills. Also, there are many new ideas generated at a start-up company, and it’s fun to participate in this process. Everyone in the company is learning the rules of what makes the company successful.

Main responsibilities: Object database programming involves making the system’s database work more efficiently. I program code and perform database administration to ensure customers have safe and easy transactions on Whiplash’s Internet site. I program the code in the database that ensures customers’ orders are safely written and stored away and that ensures customers receive quick responses . I also review existing code and suggest and implement improvements, as well as design and implement database backup and recovery strategies. For database administration, I’m tuning the database–cleaning it up to balance how it utilizes its resources, which include disks, networks and server memory.

Best thing about job: Every day there’s something new and exciting to learn. The challenges are fresh, and the people here are great.

Worst thing : There are expectations of what things can and should be done. Meeting and managing the expectations can be challenging.
