Area blood supplies are depleted because of the holiday and flu seasons, according to LifeSource Blood Services.
LifeSource specialists will conduct a community blood drive Saturday in the Algonquin Village Hall Community Room, Algonquin Road and Main Street. The blood drive is sponsored by the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Jaycees.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., healthy donors older than 17 and weighing more than 110 pounds will be screened before giving slightly less than a pint of blood, which can help up to three patients.
“We knew in advance the holidays would be really tough,” said event chairwoman Terri Schwartz.
This is the third Jaycee-sponsored drive, and each has been more successful than the previous one, Schwartz said. A goal of 75 donors has been set for the drive.
Walk-ins are encouraged, and preregistration is accepted at 847-458-8825.
