The NFL will announce the renaming of its Man of the Year award for Walter Payton on Friday. The award annually honors a player for his work off the field. Payton, who won the award in 1977, was active in children’s charities. Payton died of liver cancer on Nov. 1.
Payton’s widow, Connie; his mother, Alyne; and children Jarrett and Brittney will attend a Friday press conference.
The first winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award is Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter.
