Ray Sheppard, Panthers, scored two goals and had an assist, leading Florida to a 4-1 victory over San Jose.
Mark Messier, Canucks, had two goals and set up the game-winner in overtime in Vancouver’s 4-3 victory over Calgary.
Swings
Ziggy Palffy had two goals and an assist for Los Angeles in a 5-2 victory at Phoenix Wednesday night. The win was only the third on the road since November for the Kings, who opened the season unbeaten in 10 of 12 games away from home.
Slumping
Atlanta squandered a 2-0 lead in the first period, losing its seventh straight, 5-2 to Pittsburgh Wednesday night. Jaromir Jagr set up two of the Penguins’ four goals in the third period, extending the Thrashers’ winless streak to 11.
Streak
New Jersey defeated the New York Rangers 4-1 Wednesday night, extending the Devils’ unbeaten streak against the Rangers to 19 games. The Devils are 13-0-6 against the Rangers in regular-season games since losing Jan. 12, 1997. It is the longest winless streak against one team in New York’s 73-year history.
