Richard H. Smith, 73, of Arlington Heights, died Monday, Feb. 21, in Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines. Born in Elberton, Ga., Mr. Smith served three years as a motor mechanic in the Navy during World War II. A resident of Arlington Heights for 31 years, Mr. Smith worked for several mechanical packaging manufacturers that included Olympic Packaging in Mundelein. He retired in 1988 but continued working as a self-employed consultant in the mechanical packaging industry until last year. “He treated everybody the way he wanted to be treated,” said his wife of 53 years, Phyllis. Other survivors include a daughter, Karen; and a brother, Walter. A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
