Patricia Glazer, 73, a Gold Coast resident who co-founded the Stapler Exercise Studio frequented by such notables as Jane Pauley, Essie Kupcinet and Maggie Daley, died at home Sunday, Feb. 27, of cancer. Born in Lincoln Park, Mrs. Glazer’s father, Dr. Andre L. Stapler, was a well-known physician and surgeon. Mrs. Glazer loved to play the harp and piano. She and her sister, Flo Braudy, traveled to New York and California for dancing lessons. And during an era when women married young, Mrs. Glazer opted instead to study at the Chicago Musical College. In the 1960s, the sisters started the Stapler Dance Studio on Chicago and Michigan Avenues. During the 1970s, the sisters also opened the pioneer Stapler Exercise Studio on Oak Street. In the 10 years the studio was open, members included the creme de la creme of Chicago society, Mrs. Braudy said. During the 1990s, Mrs. Glazer changed her focus and volunteered in the chemical dependence program at Northwestern Hospital’s out-patient services. “She was interested in people and their problems and did a lot to help people,” Flo Braudy said. “She gave the last years of her life taking care of people who had problems.” Mrs. Glazer is also survived by her son, Lee. Services were Tuesday.
