George W. Bush sounds more than a little paranoid when he suggests that independents and Democrats plan to vote for John McCain in the primaries only to revert to Al Gore in November. If what he says were true, they would have done the same during the primaries against Bob Dole and his own dad–but they didn’t.
I am a Democrat, but I plan to vote my conscience. If George W. Bush is the GOP nominee, I plan to vote Democratic; but if John McCain is the nominee of his party, I plan to vote McCain. In my lexicon, John McCain transcends both parties.
