This is in response to “Put a chill on hockey violence” (Editorial, Feb. 25), which dealt with the 23-game suspension given to Marty McSorley.
I agree wholeheartedly with the severe punishment given out by the National Hockey League.
It is very discouraging that it took so long for the NHL to recognize the violence associated with hockey.
I feel the game gets carried away when cheap shots are given for no apparent reason. I like to see a good check as much as the next guy, but when you have immature players in the league, who think they can take matters into their own hands, this just causes more hassle.
Now more players might reconsider giving a player a cheap shot if they know the consequences will be stiffer.
All the fans want is a great game with the occasional check in the glass, not a cheap shot that alters the game.
