Peter Honcharevich, 85, a retired layout engineer at Lindberg Engineering in Chicago, died Friday, March 3, of injuries from a natural gas explosion that destroyed his Garfield Ridge home His wife, Anne, 79, died Wednesday of injuries from the explosion. Mr. Honcharevich, a native Chicagoan who looked forward to visits with family and neighbors, was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He met his wife in the 1940s during a dance at the Aragon Ballroom on the North Side. Mr. Honcharevich was a ballroom instructor at the time. The couple had been married 57 years and was planning to celebrate their anniversary last Sunday, the day of the explosion. Mr. Honcharevich collected stamps and coins, and enjoyed woodworking in his free time. He carved animals and made wooden puzzles for his grandchildren, said his daughter-in-law, Barbara Honcharevich. He was a 30-year member and trustee of the Garfield Ridge Civic League and a member of the Community Advisory Group to the chemical companies in the Garfield Ridge area. Survivors include a son, Gregory; a daughter, CarolAnne Hager; and five grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. and Mrs. Honcharevich will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit. Services will start at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
