Patrick Roy moved into a tie with Jacques Plante for second place on the NHL’s career victory list, making 24 saves for his 48th career shutout as Colorado broke out of a scoring slump with a 5-0 victory over New Jersey on Thursday night. Roy, who has 434 career victories in 15 seasons, needs 13 more wins to tie Terry Sawchuk’s NHL record. Roy also became the first goalie to shut out the Devils since Jan. 2, 1999 — a span of 111 games.

Scoring

Los Angeles left wing Luc Robitaille extended the NHL’s longest point-scoring streak of the season to 15 games with his 33rd goal in the Kings’ 5-2 loss to Carolina on Thursday night.

Quotable

“I think that’s what kept me in this league for so long, and that’s what made me who I am now. I like to compete, big time. It goes beyond hockey. Whatever I play, I love to win. I never go somewhere to lose.”
