As an immigrant from the Philippines, I was shocked and outraged upon hearing of the acquittal of all four New York City policemen accused of killing Amadou Diallo. Mr. Diallo, an immigrant from Guinea, West Africa, was shot in front of his apartment in Bronx, New York, unarmed.

The policemen fired 41 times, hitting him 19 times. Evidence showed that he was hit even though he was already down.

Will this be the new message to all foreign immigrants that this is the start of open season for us at the start of this new millennium in this great and powerful country?

How can I explain to my family, children and to my community that we have justice here?

How can I explain to them that racial profiling and police brutality do not exist at this time and age? All I can say is that the world will be watching the examples of this great and powerful country.
