Leo Andelman, 92, a retired typesetter for the Chicago Tribune, died Saturday, Feb. 19, in Newport Beach, Calif. The son of a shoemaker and housewife who immigrated to the United States from Russia, Mr. Andelman was born in Chicago the third of the couple’s four children. Mr. Andelman was a typesetter in the Tribune’s composing room for 38 years, retiring in 1975. He then went to work as a courier, primarily for banks, until the age of 79, said his daughter, Ronna Farber. “He always worked very hard,” she said. “He was a member of the printer’s union, a quiet guy who was with his family as much as he could be.” In 1986, he moved with his wife, Gladys, to Scottsdale, Ariz. After his wife’s death in 1996, he moved to Newport Beach to be near his daughter. He also is survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services were held in Phoenix.
