Seniors age 60 or older of moderate or low income can receive free tax-preparation assistance through April 15 from the Tax-Aide program of the American Association of Retired Persons.

Those interested should bring all financial papers for 1999, including all tax documents for interest, dividends, pensions, part-time employment and Social Security income as well as broker statements.

If paying real estate taxes, bring a tax bill as a possible credit on state tax returns. If possible, bring last year’s tax returns as well as any forms received for the 1999 year. Electronic filing is being used in the McHenry site.

Call 815-344-3555 to schedule a one-hour appointment with an AARP volunteer at any site, except where specified otherwise. Tax-Aide sites include:

Algonquin:

Crystal Lake:

– Park Place, 403 Park Pl., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Huntley:

– Huntley Public Library, 11000 Ruth Rd., Thursdays. For an appointment, call 847-669-5386.

Marengo:

– Marengo Public Library, 200 S. State St., Thursdays.

McHenry:

Woodstock:
