Kerry D. Witt, 53, of East Dundee, a social studies teacher at Dundee Middle School in West Dundee, died Sunday, March 5, in Elgin. Mr. Witt, who was born in Elgin, taught at the school since 1973. Mr. Witt was previously a special education teacher in District 300 at the former Crown High School, now Dundee-Crown, in Carpentersville, from 1969 to 1973. Mr. Witt, a 1964 graduate of Dundee High School, received a bachelor’s degree in education at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston in 1968 and a master’s degree in education at DePaul University in the 1970s. Mr. Witt played softball with teams in several Dundee-area leagues. “He was exceptionally well-loved by the people in the community,” said his brother Mike. “He was very active in sports in the community. He knew a lot of people and everyone knew him. He organized Tuesday and Thursday basketball games at Dundee Middle School. He always took kids on field trips. He was an all-around good guy.” Survivors include his wife, Julia; a daughter, Jacia; a son, Kelden; his mother, Charlotte; a sister, Barbara Sutfin; and another brother, Lawrence Jr. A service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church, 417 W. Main St., West Dundee.
