Frank E. Peterson, 68, a 45-year resident of Elgin, died there Monday, March 6, in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. Mr. Peterson, a Chicago native, retired in 1995 as a custodian at Elgin School District 46 after 40 years of service. He most recently worked at Highland Elementary School for 24 years. “He and I came to the school at the same time,” said Jerry Hoffmann, 6th-grade teacher at Highland School. “He was very involved with the school and the community. He had a lot of knowledge about the city. He gave a great effort in everything he did. He was very quick to respond to any needs at the school.” Survivors include his wife of more than 45 years, Marian; a daughter, Mary Kirmse; a son, Dave; and two granddaughters. A visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 215 Thomas More Drive, Elgin.
