Six minor-league players for the Houston Astros and a female guest were tied up and robbed in their Florida hotel rooms by two gunmen during the night. Police shot one gunman while the other escaped.

The armed robbery took place late Sunday at a Holiday Inn in Kissimmee, Fla., where the Astros stay for spring training.

None of the players was hurt.

“Certainly they’re shaken up right now, but overall they handled themselves well,” said Tim Purpura, the Astros’ assistant general manager.

Five players and a girlfriend of one of the players were watching television when the gunmen burst into the room. The gunmen tied the players and the woman up at gunpoint and took cash, said police Cmdr. Fran Iwanski.

The gunmen then moved to an adjacent room where one player was staying by himself. The players in the first room untied themselves, called police and locked their door.

When a police officer arrived, one of the gunmen fled. He was still at large Monday.

Police shot and critically wounded the other gunmen after he and the player struggled for possession of a gun.
