McHenry City Council members got their first good look at a proposed business park and commercial center on Monday night. Concept plans for the Pacini Commerce Center were unveiled at a committee of the whole meeting.

Construction on the business park is set to begin in spring 2001 if annexation is completed early this summer.

The plan calls for the development of 180 acres of business park and 20.6 acres of commercial property on Illinois Highway 31, south of the McHenry Corporate Center. An additional 40 acres would be open space.

Gregg Gamble, land development consultant for Pacini, said the commercial portion would likely include major grocery and retail stores. He added that the developers hoped to begin to sell business lots this summer.

The meeting was a chance for council members to give comments on the plan before the developer seeks approval and annexation to the city through the formal process.
