I am a long-time fan of the comic strip Baby Blues, but I was stunned by the March 9 strip in which Zoe tells her mother that Hammie, a baby under the age of 2, is eating popcorn, chips, peanuts and M&M’s. The mother casually tells the little girl to tell her brother to stop eating because it is almost dinnertime. All of the things that the baby is eating are serious choking hazards for children under 3 years old. The authors not only missed an opportunity to educate parents of the dangers of certain foods for young toddlers, they made light of a potentially deadly situation.
