Mary Catherine Diskin, 87, who worked for 34 years as a bookkeeper for Elvis Presley’s agent, Col. Tom Parker, died Friday, March 10, in Nashville Memorial Hospital in Tennessee after having a heart attack. Ms. Diskin, who was born and raised in Chicago, moved to Tennessee in 1956 after her brother, who worked for Parker, told her the office needed a bookkeeper. She intended to stay only a month, but when Presley’s popularity soared, she continued to work for Parker. She took care of all the money that came in from Presley’s appearances and record sales. “She thought he was such a nice young man and was very polite, always very mannerly. She always talked about his big blue eyes,” said her sister Patti Diskin. Quiet and shy, Ms. Diskin had a good sense of humor and enjoyed attending plays and movies, as well as dining out. Ms. Diskin graduated from St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and Columbia Business College. In addition to her sister, Ms. Diskin is survived by her brother, Bill; and two other sisters, Helen Bonja and Betty Marino. Visitation will be Thursday and a mass will be said Friday in Nashville.
