Matthew C. Rakow, 72, of West Dundee retired in the late 1980s as an inside sales coordinator at the Shakeproof Division of Illinois Toolworks, Elgin, after 38 years of service. Mr. Rakow, who was born in Elgin, died there Tuesday, March 14, in Sherman Hospital. Mr. Rakow served in a military police unit with the U.S. Army of Occupation in Germany after World War II. “He was a fine man,” said Neil Hanrahan, with the Chicago office of Shakeproof. “He did his job very well.” His wife of 48 years, Ruth, said: “Everyone always said he was such a good guy. And he was a very good father.” Other survivors include two sons, John and Kurt; a sister, Leone; a brother, Jan; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, when a service will begin in Calvary Lutheran Church, 535 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin.
