It looks like Patrick Lalime isn’t ready to hand over Ottawa’s No. 1 goaltending job to Tom Barrasso.

With the newly acquired Barrasso looking on from the press box, Lalime made 36 saves, barely missing his second straight shutout in leading the Senators over fading Calgary.

Lalime improved to 17-11-3 this season and is unbeaten in his last five starts (4-0-1), during which he has a 1.18 goals-against average.

Barrasso was acquired by the Senators just before Tuesday’s trading deadline from Pittsburgh for goaltender Ron Tugnutt and defenseman Janne Laukkanen.

The 34-year-old just recently resumed skating after spending three weeks with his family following the death of his father.

Lalime lost his shutout with 16 seconds left when rookie Jeff Cowan tipped in a slap shot by Derek Morris.

Shawn McEachern, Radek Bonk and Daniel Alfredsson scored for Ottawa, which moved past idle Florida and into fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.
