I keep reading horror stories about how the Russians are treating the civilian population in the Chechen territory. The United States seems to be taking another hands-off approach, as was the case in Bosnia and Kosovo. We seem to have a reactionary foreign policy to major events in some parts of the world.
European leaders, such as British Prime Minister Tony Blair, take a much more progressive approach to crises such as these regardless of the lack of interest in the media or general public
I can only hope that our next president takes a more active role in foreign policy issues and we as a nation understand the importance of a balanced foreign policy not solely tied to economic interests.
