I’m neither a member of the NRA nor do I own a gun. Yet Idisagree with President Clinton’s most recent attempt to use the school shooting in Michigan to infringe on the rights of gun owners.
Although no one from the president to the gun lobby or any respectable gun owner is happy with what happened, mandating the use of trigger locks or more restrictions on gun ownership is clearly not the answer.
One only needs to look at the house in which the gun was picked up by the 6-year-old to find the answer. The home allegedly was a crack house. At least two stolen guns were allegedly found in the house, one of them a shotgun.
Would someone who is selling crack, who has stolen guns around the house, and who places children in jeopardy by putting them anywhere near such an environment, even think about abiding by a law to use trigger locks? The only people the new law would affect would be the law-abiding gun owners who didn’t cause the problem in the first place!
Silly gun laws such as those proposed by President Clinton only increase the amount of government interference in our lives without any real impact on our safety. The president needs to put his anti-gun rhetoric away, and focus on ways to close down the crack houses that foster such activities.
