Robert Warren Carter Sr., 81, former president and owner of Carter Motor Co. in Chicago, died Wednesday, March 15, in Red Oaks of Highland Park nursing home. Raised on the city’s North Side, Mr. Carter joined his family’s business, which produced specialized motors for industry, as a young man. He continued in the business for 50 years, until about 12 years ago when he sold the company. Mr. Carter was also a member of the Chicago Musicians Union for 60 years. In the late ’30s and early ’40s, he performed in a dance band, trading in his daily business suit for a tuxedo. In the 1950s, when his children were young, he was also a school board member in Skokie District 69. “He was an amazing man with many talents,” said his wife, Lois. “He was just good at everything.” In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Linda Thomas; a son, Robert Jr.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Donnellan Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd., Skokie. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
