Eleanore M. Bors, 69, a retired associate director and editor-in-chief for the American Medical Technologists’ Association, died Thursday, March 16, at home in Naperville. After an early career that included tenures as an English teacher and a newspaper editor, Mrs. Bors joined the technologists’ industry group in 1969 as an editor of the group’s publications. The mother of six boys born in nine years, Mrs. Bors became, in her children’s eyes, a pioneer of what is now known as “tele-commuting.” “She had all the kids, so she told (employers) `I want to do the job, but you have to let me do it at home,’ ” said her son John. “She would come in about an hour or two a week and then do most of her work at night when her kids didn’t need her.” Mrs. Bors’ work strategy was vindicated, her son said, after one episode when she brought her youngest son to work with her: “He clogged the plumbing with rubber cement, so that was pretty much it.” Born and raised in Chicago, Mrs. Bors was the valedictorian of her class at Notre Dame High School, and went on to graduate second in her class from Rosary College, relatives said. While working as a high school English teacher in 1954, Mrs. Bors met and married Robert J. Bors. Living in Prospect Heights in the early 1960s, Mrs. Bors helped start the local newspaper out of her home. “She would be sitting around the kitchen table with three of her sons helping her mimeograph, stamp, and address all these newspapers,” her son said. After moving to Park Ridge in 1965, Mrs. Bors became active in a lay theology group at St. Paul the Cross Church. After retiring from the technologists’ association in 1995, Mrs. Bors worked “practically full time” at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, her son said, earning her a Volunteer of the Year award in 1998. In addition to her husband and son, Mrs. Bors is survived by five other sons, Paul, Bill, Dan, Mike and Dave; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren, Naperville. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1450 Green Trails Drive, Naperville.
