Michael Maguire, 26, of the 700 block of Patton Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with theft Saturday when he allegedly tried to steal a purse from another patron at North Beach, a bar at 1001 N. Roselle Rd., authorities said. Someone allegedly removed a purse slung over a chair in the club by a 37-year-old Bartlett woman at about 2 a.m., police said. A friend of the woman’s allegedly chased Maguire into a restroom after spotting Maguire leave the area where the purse had been, they said. Store security agents allegedly found Maguire in a restroom stall with the purse, but minus about $70 which the owner said it had contained. Maguire denied the theft, saying he simply entered the stall to vomit after drinking too much, according to police. Authorities never recovered the money. Maguire was released after posting 10 percent of his $1,000 bond and ordered to face the charge on April 14, authorities said.
