Should checking be banned in youth hockey? The nation’s largest doctor’s group thinks so.
The American Academy of Pediatrics says checking – in other words, blocking, bumping or ramming opponents – is to blame for as much as 86 percent of hockey injuries. The group is recommending a checking ban in all organized games with players under 15.
But some coaches say checking
