CHICAGO–I noted with disappointed resignation Julia Keller’s most obscene breach to date of journalistic standards and ethics. I cannot imagine how her obsequious description of Nike’s latest ad campaign qualified as news, cultural criticism, or anything in between (“Nike shoots, scores with Bracketville,” March 15). It was a decade behind the curve of any social trend, since the NCAA tournament has been the subject of wild hype and rampant gambling at least since David Lee Roth was with Van Halen.
I cringe in expectation of her next article on how Starbucks has changed American culture by opening up a new age of coffee drinking.
