Your paper has recently printed two separate letters in this column entitled “Safe abortions.” How can anyone label as “safe” a surgical procedure that results in hundreds of thousands of deaths each year? Imagine if that many people died as a result of heart bypass surgery or any other common surgical procedure. The medical community would demand a halt to such practice.
