New York Jets coach Al Groh said Tuesday the team no longer is considering trading two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson.
But Groh also insisted the team has no plans to renegotiate Johnson’s contract, which has two years to run at less than $2 million a season, considered far below his market value.
Johnson’s agent, Jerome Stanley, said Johnson would not discuss his contract in the media.
– Calling himself “young and immature,” Saints running back Ricky Williams apologized for critical comments he made about New Orleans and the team in Sports Illustrated. Williams told SI he did not like living in New Orleans and suggested the Saints move to San Antonio.
– The Dallas Cowboys re-signed ex-Bear defensive lineman Alonzo Spellman to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed.
– Kansas City receiver Andre Rison has settled a dispute with a music store and is seeking an agreement that would dismiss a theft charge.
