Max W. Schmid, 74, of Arlington Heights, retired in 1983 as owner of the former Schmid’s Home Bakery in Chicago and Mt. Prospect. Mr. Schmid, who was born in Germany, died Sunday, March 19, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village. Mr. Schmid served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He received the Purple Heart among other decorations. “He was the best dad, and we miss him,” said his daughter Deanna M. Dubs. Survivors include his wife Anna H.; another daughter, Marla Gunn; a son, William F.; a sister, Marion Dolan; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by mass at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church, 841 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
