Two people were robbed at gunpoint of more than $3,000 Sunday night outside the Baymont Inn, 500 Tollgate Rd., police said. A family from Texas was getting out of a van near the hotel about 9:30 p.m. when a man wearing a ski mask and black clothing pointed a gun at a 50-year-old woman and demanded her purse, which contained about $3,000, police said. The assailant struck the woman on the forehead with the gun before taking the purse, police said. About $60 was taken from a 36-year-old man, police said. Two other male family members chased the robber to a car in which another man was waiting in the 500 block of Church Street, police said. There was a brief altercation, and the two assailants were last seen speeding westbound on State Street in a blue older-model Oldsmobile. The men who chased the robber and the woman were treated at hospitals and released, police said.
