The exotic turn-of-the century style of decorative arts known as Art Nouveau had considerable impact in Japan. Now, on a much smaller scale, the Douglas Dawson Gallery, 222 W. Huron St., has mounted a show that indicates Art Deco, the French style of decorative arts in the 1920s, influenced high-end furniture design in China. Created in workshops near Shanghai, these Deco pieces fell into disfavor after World War II and only slowly have been rediscovered by the West. Some will be on view at the gallery from Saturday through May 15.
