Just by making the final, the Swiss star was assured the top ranking, which she lost in mid-April to Lindsay Davenport.
– Tina Pisnik of Slovenia won her first Sanex WTA Tour title, the Croatian Bol Ladies Open, by edging Amelie Mauresmo of France 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2).
