Herbert A. Rickert, 89, died Monday, May 29, in his Arlington Heights home. Born and raised on a farm, Mr. Rickert moved with his parents to Bensenville, where he worked on his family’s vegetable farm until the 1950s. He left the farm to go into construction and worked as a laborer until he retired in the mid-1970s. A resident of Arlington Heights since 1942, Mr. Rickert enjoyed working outdoors. “He loved being outside and working on his lawn or tending to his flowers,” said his daughter, Hazel Miller. Mr. Rickert is also survived by his wife of more than 67 years, Elsie; a son, Herbert; a brother, Alvin; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. A service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel at Eden Memorial Park, 9851 W. Irving Park Rd., Schiller Park.
