Vivian Ladas, a resident of Arlington Heights for more than 65 years, died Monday, May 29, in Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Born in Greece, Mrs. Ladas moved to Chicago in 1928. Within a few years, she moved to Arlington Heights where she and her husband, Andrew, now deceased, owned and operated The Arlington Cafe during the 1930s. A decade later, they sold the restaurant and Mrs. Ladas became a homemaker. She was one of the original members of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines. “She had a big heart,” said her son Dean. “She was the center of the family, and she always had the dinners for all of the holidays.” Mrs. Ladas is survived by another son, Gus; a daughter, Angie Mahieu; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2350 Dempster St., Des Plaines.
