The May 28 news story about the perfume ban in Halifax was very one-sided. Perfume is the tobacco smoke of this decade. Remember how smokers screamed when their “right” to smoke was infringed upon? Now, finally, the hazards of secondhand tobacco smoke is known, and smoking in most public places has been banned.

Yes, people have been wearing fragrances since Biblical times, but the fragrances available now are much different. Do you know what is in the perfume and scented products people are using? Many of these chemicals are derived from petroleum. In other words, people are subjecting themselves and others to poisonous, hazardous chemicals just so they can smell “nice.”

There is enough pollution in our air–we don’t need perfume.
