The Chicago Park District officials’ proposal to allow dogs at the beaches is offensive. Perhaps these officials need to walk through the parks they manage to see what the beaches will look like when dogs are allowed on them.

I come from a family that has always owned a dog, and I love dogs. But as someone who takes care of my dog, I resent others who allow their dogs to run without leashes and who do not clean up their waste. My daughter and I have already been chased out of our neighborhood park because of unleashed dogs. I’m hoping the beaches will not follow.

It’s obvious that the time frame set up for dogs will not be obeyed, and the beaches will turn into filthy and dangerous places.

The city has become more family friendly; why is the park district trying to scare us away from our beaches? Until the park district can show it can enforce the leash laws and clean up the parks, beaches should remain a place for people and families.
