Jane C. Robinson, 87, an accountant for nearly 45 years in the insurance industry in Chicago, died Monday, May 29, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove from pneumonia after being hospitalized for a broken hip. Ms. Robinson, who had lived in Downers Grove for nearly 30 years, retired about 20 years ago from her work at various insurance firms. She enjoyed working with numbers, said her niece Nancy Miller. “It was something you could work through and have an exact answer,” Miller said about her aunt’s fondness for accounting. A private person, Ms. Robinson enjoyed reading and had an appreciation for nature. She was able to identify several types of birds by sight, and she enjoyed planting flowers in her garden, her niece said. But she also liked trying new things, even taking a hot air balloon ride near Plainfield for her 80th birthday. When she was younger, she also spent time golfing and swimming. Ms. Robinson was also an active member of the Thalia Sorority, a women’s group that undertook various service projects. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. A service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave., Downers Grove.
