What in the article “Raves rock on, laws or not” was so newsworthy that it warranted front-page placement on May 22? The news element that I could glean from this reprehensibly slanted article was that the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance without public discussion. Possibly interesting, but comments from lawmakers about why it was passed were not included.
Instead I was taken on a tour of the rave scene, more appropriate for Tempo than the front page. Further, your writers went on to treat me to their views of acceptable illegal drug use. After listing the drugs present at a rave, these writers seemingly dismissed this illegal behavior with the qualifier “But there was no…sign of harder drugs, such as cocaine or heroin.” Quite the endorsement for Ecstasy, LSD and other designer drugs.
