Lo and behold, the Chicago Park District has read your mind: the 2000 season of “Theater on the Lake” opens Wednesday with “Words on Fire.” Steppenwolf Theater’s celebration of Chicago’s cultural diversity runs Wednesday through June 18, with performances at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and at 4 p.m. Sunday. Look for works by The Curious Theater Branch, Lookingglass Theater Company, Porchlight Theater and others, every weekend through Aug. 13.
