Birthday: March 26, 1971.
Birthplace: Chicago.
Occupation: World heavyweight amateur boxing champion.
Current home: Chicago.
Marital status: Single.
Car: A 1987 maroon Volkswagen Jetta.
Working on: I’m co-captain of the U.S. boxing team, which will compete in the Olympics in Sydney in September. Right now I’m training in Colorado Springs.
The last good movie I saw: “The Green Mile.”
The book I’ve been reading: “Seize the Moment, Share the Message: And God Will Change Lives” (Questar, paperback), by Roberta Kuhne. It’s an inspirational book and I gave it to my sister, Sharon, because I thought she’d like it too.
Favorite meal: Cheese pizza.
Favorite performer: Mary J. Blige.
Prized possession: My Olympic plaque, which I got at the boxing trials.
Personal hero: I looked up to my mother because she was strong enough to raise a family on her own, including two hard-headed boys.
People always think I’m: With my head all nice and shiny, they think I’m R. Kelly.
Nobody knows: That I’m just as I appear. It’s not an act or a facade.
I’m better than anyone else when it comes to: Working hard and dedicating myself to a goal.
If I could do it over: I would have listened to my mother and stayed away from the men who led me into armed robbery. That got me incarcerated for seven years. Still, my life’s experiences have made me the man I am today.
My fantasy is: My family and I are away on an exotic trip enjoying ourselves and life.
The one thing I can’t stand: People who pretend to be your friend when they’re not.
If I could change one thing about myself: I’m quite content with myself.
My most irrational act: Committing the armed robbery nine years ago.
Most humbling experience: Being in a place where I had no control over my life.
The three words that best describe me: Keep God first.
