One person was killed Monday evening on the Dan Ryan Expressway when a car plowed into a stalled Illinois Department of Transportation truck, authorities said.

The car was northbound on the Ryan at 28th Street when it rear-ended the IDOT truck that had broken down about 7 p.m. The truck was partially on the narrow shoulder and partially in the traffic lane, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Roy Sanji.

The IDOT worker, who saw the vehicle coming and jumped against a retaining wall, was slightly injured but did not require hospitalization. The victim was identified as Dion D. Hampton, 27, of Chicago, who was driving the car, police said. An unidentified passenger was in serious condition at Cook County Hospital, Sanji said.
