Q: I am asking a favor of you. I am looking for a lifetime partner, a lady whom I can marry in the future. I am 19 years old, live in Zambia and have completed technical high school. What I’m looking for in my partner is that award-winning combination of beauty and intelligence. She should be honest, patient, able to communicate and love me for who I am. I can describe myself as a very handsome, intelligent, open and romantic person with a good sense of humor. She should be a non-smoker. Please help me to find her.

A: If I could wave my magic wand and fill your request, the world would come knocking at my door. But while I cannot grant you the favor you ask, let me give you another one, which will take the form of some advice. When you go shopping for a car, you can select the model, color and all the accessories, but that doesn’t happen when you search for a wife. You might find someone with some of the qualities you seek, but to go searching for the whole package might leave you frustrated. So my advice to you is to forget all about these criteria. Instead, leave yourself open to meeting all sorts of young women. Instead of falling in love with one person’s beauty or intelligence, you want to fall in love with a complete person. Maybe she won’t be that beautiful. She might even be a smoker, but if she brings you true love, then that is what matters the most. By looking at every single woman, not just the ones who fit your description, you’re much more likely to discover a real pearl.
