In the wake of now-scuttled plans for a Home Depot store at the northwest corner of Roosevelt and County Farm Roads, the Wheaton City Council on Monday unanimously approved a resolution recommending that DuPage County and the State of Illinois improve the intersection.
Councilman Grant Eckhoff proposed the resolution, telling the council that the city needed to go on record urging the county and state to move forward with improvements to the T-shaped intersection.
“These are two roads that the city does not control,” Eckhoff said. He said the resolution will be sent to state Sen. Peter Roskam (R-Wheaton), state Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-Wheaton), four County Board members and DuPage County Board Chairman Robert Schillerstrom.
The plans for the Home Depot store were delayed for weeks as the city considered the store’s potential impact on flooding and traffic. The plans appear to have been abandoned with the DuPage County Forest Preserve District’s recent decision to pursue condemnation of the property.
