If interest in serving on a newly formed commission is any indication, then the revival of the Hinsdale Theater appears promising.

The Hinsdale Village Board appointed nine members Tuesday to the Hinsdale Theater & Performing Arts Commission. The board previously appointed Harry Vincent as chairman, and the 10-person body is one more than originally envisioned.

But trustees said strong interest prompted the larger commission. During two informational meetings this month, 50 people volunteered to serve in some capacity, said Trustee George Faulstich.

In May, the Village Board approved a 27-month, $225,000 sublease of the theater, which was closed Oct. 31 amid ownership concerns over its structural and financial soundness. In August, Hinsdale will begin paying $7,500 monthly rent for 12 months. The rent increases thereafter, but officials are hopeful that within a few years the theater will become self-sufficient.
