Wilbert E. Mieling, 68, of Wheeling, a former resident of Des Plaines, died Tuesday, June 20, in Meadowbrook Manor in Naperville. Born in Chicago, Mr. Mieling served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1954 to 1956. He was a retired tool-and-die maker who worked 47 years at P-K Tool & Manufacturing Co. in Chicago. Mr. Mieling started as an apprentice and, by the time he retired in the late 1990s, had worked for three generations of the Kaiser family, which owns the company. “He was a very multi-talented technician,” said Tom Kaiser, company president. “He had the kind of smile that made everyone smile.” Mr. Mieling is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lorraine; a son, James; a daughter, Susan; a brother, Edward; and two grandchildren. A service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
